The Book of Mormon

2 Nephi 6

Jacob Teaches the People

These are the words of Jacob, Nephi’s brother. He spoke to the Nephite people: My dear brothers and sisters, I, Jacob, have been called by God. I was made a priest in his holy order. My brother Nephi made me a priest. You look to Nephi as your king and protector. You depend on him to keep you safe. You know that I have spoken to you many times. I will speak to you again. I care about your souls. I worry about you a lot. You know that I always have. I have tried hard to teach you. I have taught you the words of my father. I have taught you about everything written from the beginning of the world.

Now I want to talk to you about things that are happening now and things that will happen. So I will read you the words of Isaiah. These are the words my brother wanted me to speak to you. I speak them so you can learn and give glory to God. The words I will read are what Isaiah said about all the people of Israel. These words can be about you too. You are part of Israel. Isaiah said many things that can be about you because you are part of Israel.

Isaiah’s Words About Israel

These are the words: The Lord God says: “I will lift up my hand to the non-Jewish nations. I will set up my banner for the people. They will bring your sons in their arms. They will carry your daughters on their shoulders. Kings will take care of you like fathers. Queens will take care of you like mothers. They will bow down to you with their faces to the ground. They will lick the dust off your feet. You will know that I am the Lord. Those who wait for me will not be disappointed.”

Jacob Explains Isaiah’s Words

Now I want to say something about these words. The Lord has shown me that the people who were at Jerusalem have been killed and taken away as prisoners. That’s where we came from. But the Lord has shown me that they will come back again. He has also shown me that the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, will show himself to them in the flesh. After he shows himself, they will whip him and kill him on a cross. This is what the angel told me. After they harden their hearts and stiffen their necks against the Holy One of Israel, the judgments of the Holy One will come on them. The day will come when they will be struck and have hard times. So they will be pushed around. The angel said many will have hard times in their bodies. But they won’t die because good people will pray for them. They will be scattered and struck and hated. But the Lord will be kind to them. When they learn about their Savior, they will be brought back together to the lands they own.

God blesses the non-Jewish people who the prophet wrote about. If they turn away from doing bad things and don’t fight against Zion and don’t join that great evil church, they will be saved. The Lord God will keep his promises that he made to his children. That’s why the prophet wrote these things. So those who fight against Zion and God’s people will lick the dust off their feet. God’s people will not be disappointed. God’s people are those who wait for him. They still wait for the Messiah to come.

The Messiah Will Come Again

The prophet said the Messiah will come a second time to bring them back. So he will show himself to them with power and great glory. He will destroy their enemies on the day they believe in him. He won’t destroy anyone who believes in him. Those who don’t believe in him will be destroyed by fire, storms, earthquakes, killing, sickness, and hunger. They will know that the Lord is God, the Holy One of Israel.

“Can stolen things be taken from the strong? Can a prisoner who was captured fairly be set free?” But the Lord says: “Even prisoners of the strong will be taken away. Stolen things from scary people will be set free. The Mighty God will save his people. The Lord says: ‘I will fight with those who fight with you.’ I will feed those who hurt you with their own flesh. They will get drunk on their own blood like it’s sweet wine. All people will know that I the Lord am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”
