Moroni 1

Moroni has finished abridging the Jaredite record and thought he would write no more. He remains in hiding from Lamanites who kill Nephites refusing to deny Christ, and decides to write additional things that might benefit the Lamanites.

Moroni Hides from the Lamanites

I, Moroni, finished shortening the record of the Jared people. I thought I would not write anymore. But I have not died yet. I do not let the Lamanites know where I am, or they will kill me. They have very fierce wars among themselves. Because they hate us, they kill every Nephite who will not say that Christ is not real. I will not say that Christ is not real. So I wander wherever I can to stay safe. So I will write a few more things. I thought I would not write anymore. But I will write a few more things. Maybe they will help my brothers, the Lamanites, someday. This is what the Lord wants.
