Moroni 1

Moroni has finished abridging the Jaredite record and thought he would write no more. He remains in hiding from Lamanites who kill Nephites refusing to deny Christ, and decides to write additional things that might benefit the Lamanites.

Moroni Writes in Hiding

I, Moroni, had finished abridging the Jaredite record and thought I was done writing. But I’m still alive, hiding from the Lamanites so they don’t kill me.

They’re at war with each other—brutal, vicious wars. And because of their hatred, they execute every Nephite who won’t deny Christ. I won’t deny Christ. So I keep moving, going wherever I can to stay alive. That’s why I’m writing a little more—even though I thought I was finished. Maybe what I write will help my Lamanite brothers someday, if that’s what the Lord wants.

Influences

  • 1:2 — Matthew 16:16 (KJV)
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
  • 1:4 — Acts 21:14 (KJV)
And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.
