Jesus Explains Everything
After Jesus told these things, he explained them to the crowd. He explained everything to them, both big and small things.
He said: 'You didn’t have these Scriptures with you. The Father told me to give them to you. He was wise to give them. He wanted future generations to have them.' Jesus explained everything. He explained from the beginning until the time when he will come in his glory. He explained everything that will happen on the earth. He told them about when the earth will melt with fire. The earth will roll up like a scroll. The heavens and the earth will pass away. He told them about the great and last day. On that day all people, all families, all nations and languages will stand before God. They will be judged for what they did. God will judge if their works were good or if they were bad. If their works were good, they will have eternal life. If their works were bad, they will be judged and punished. One group will be on one side and the other group will be on the other side. This is because of the mercy, justice, and holiness that is in Christ. This was true even before the world began.
Mormon Explains His Writing
I can’t write even a hundredth part of the things Jesus taught the people in this book. But Nephi’s plates contain most of the things Jesus taught the people. I have written these things. They are a smaller part of what he taught the people. I wrote them so they may be brought back to these people from the Gentiles. This is what Jesus said would happen.
When they get this, they should have it first to test their faith. If they believe these things, then greater things will be shown to them. But if they don’t believe these things, then the greater things will be kept from them. This will be their punishment.
I was about to write everything that was carved on Nephi’s plates. But the Lord stopped me. He said: 'I will test the faith of my people.' So I, Mormon, write the things the Lord told me to write. Now I, Mormon, am done with what I was saying. I will go on and write the things he told me to write.
Jesus Teaches for Three Days
I want you to know that the Lord taught the people for three days. After that, he showed himself to them many times. He broke bread many times. He blessed it and gave it to them.
He taught and helped the children of the crowd I told you about. He helped them speak. They spoke amazing things to their fathers. What they said was even greater than what Jesus had told the people. He helped them speak so they could say these things.
After Jesus went up to Heaven the second time and went to the Father, something happened. Before he left, he had healed all the sick people. He helped the people who couldn’t walk. He opened the eyes of the blind. He helped the deaf hear. He did all kinds of healing among them. He even brought a dead man back to life. He showed them his power. Then he went up to the Father. The next day the crowd got together. They saw and heard these children. Even babies opened their mouths and said amazing things. The things they said were so special that no one was allowed to write them down.
The Disciples Begin Their Work
From that time on, the disciples Jesus had chosen started to baptize and teach everyone who came to them. Everyone who was baptized in Jesus’ name was filled with the Holy Spirit. Many of them saw and heard things that can’t be spoken. These things are not allowed to be written.
They taught and helped each other. They shared everything with each other. Every person treated others fairly. They did everything Jesus told them to do. The people who were baptized in Jesus’ name were called the church of Christ.
