Recording the Covenant
After finishing his speech, King Benjamin decided to record the names of everyone who had made a covenant with God to keep his commands. Every single person entered the covenant and took on the name of Christ—everyone except the little children. When Benjamin wrapped up all his preparations, he officially made his son Mosiah the new king. He passed on all his responsibilities and instructions for leading the kingdom. He also appointed priests to teach the people God’s commands and remind them of the oath they’d made. Then he sent the crowd home, and everyone returned to their families.
Mosiah Takes the Throne
Mosiah took his father’s place as king. He was thirty years old when he began to rule. This was about 476 years after Lehi left Jerusalem. King Benjamin lived three more years, and then he died.
King Mosiah followed the Lord’s ways. He kept God’s laws and commands in everything. King Mosiah had his people farm the land. He worked the soil himself so he wouldn’t be a burden to anyone—just like his father had done. For three years there wasn’t a single conflict among all his people.
