Mormon Leads the Nephite Armies Again
I, Mormon, went back to the Nephites. I changed my mind about my promise not to help them anymore. They put me in charge of their armies again. They thought I could save them from their troubles. But I had no hope. I knew the Lord would judge them. They didn’t turn from their sins. They fought for their lives. But they didn’t call on God who made them.
The Lamanites came against us when we ran to the city of Jordan. But they were pushed back. They didn’t take the city at that time. They came against us again. We kept the city safe. Other Nephite cities also stayed safe. These strong places kept the Lamanites from getting into the land in front of us. They couldn’t destroy the people living there. But any land we had passed by was destroyed if the people there hadn’t gathered together. The Lamanites destroyed them. They burned their towns, villages, and cities. This went on for 379 years.
In the 380th year, the Lamanites came to fight us again. We stood against them bravely. But it was no use. There were so many of them that they ran over the Nephite people. We ran away again. Those who could run faster than the Lamanites got away. Those who couldn’t run fast enough were killed.
Mormon Explains His Writing
I don’t want to hurt people by showing them this terrible scene of blood and killing that I saw. But I know these things must be made known. All things that are hidden must be shown. These people’s children must know about this. The Gentiles must know too. The Lord said the Gentiles would scatter this people. This people would be counted as nothing by them. So I’m writing a short summary. I won’t give a full account of what I saw. This is what God told me to do. Also, I don’t want you to be too sad about how bad this people was.
I’m speaking to their children. I’m also speaking to the Gentiles who care about the house of Israel. I’m speaking to those who know where their blessings come from. I know they will be sad about the hard times of the house of Israel. They will be sad that this people was destroyed. They will be sad that this people didn’t turn from their sins. If they had, Jesus would have held them close.
These things are written for the children of the house of Jacob. They are written this way because God knows that bad people won’t bring them out. These writings will be hidden until the Lord brings them out at the right time. This is what God told me to do. These writings will come out when the Lord decides it’s right.
The Future of This People
These writings will go to the Jews who don’t believe. This is why they will go to them. They might be convinced that Jesus is the Christ. He is the Son of the living God. Then the Father can complete his great plan through his most loved Son. He will bring the Jews back to their land. He will bring all the house of Israel back to the land God gave them. This will complete his promise. Also, the children of this people will believe his good news more. The good news will come to them from the Gentiles. This people will be scattered. They will become dark, dirty, and hated. They will be worse than anything we have ever seen. They will be worse than the Lamanites. This will happen because they don’t believe and worship idols.
The Spirit of the Lord has already stopped trying to reach their fathers. They are without Christ and God in the world. They are blown around like dust in the wind. They were once a wonderful people. Christ was their shepherd. God the Father led them. But now Satan leads them around. They are like dust blown by the wind. They are like a boat tossed on the waves with no sail or anchor. They have no way to steer. That’s what they are like.
The Lord has saved the blessings they could have had in this land. He saved them for the Gentiles who will live in the land. But they will be pushed away and scattered by the Gentiles. After the Gentiles have scattered them, the Lord will remember his promise to Abraham. He will remember his promise to all the house of Israel. The Lord will remember the prayers that good people have prayed for them.
A Warning to the Gentiles
Then, you Gentiles, how can you stand before God’s power? You must turn from your sins and stop doing evil. Don’t you know you are in God’s hands? Don’t you know he has all power? When he commands it, the earth will roll up like a scroll. Turn from your sins. Be humble before God. If you don’t, he will judge you. Some of Jacob’s children will come among you like a lion. They will tear you apart. No one will be able to save you.
