Moroni Gets Good News from Helaman

It was year 30 that judges ruled over the Nephites. Moroni got a letter from Helaman and read it. He was very happy because Helaman had done so well. He had gotten back the lands that were lost. Moroni told all his people in the area around him. He wanted them to be happy too. Right away, he sent a letter to Pahoran. He wanted him to send more soldiers to help Helaman’s army. This would make it easy for Helaman to keep the land he had gotten back in such an amazing way.

After Moroni sent this letter to Zarahemla, he started making a new plan. He wanted to get back the rest of the lands and cities the Lamanites had taken from them.

The Lamanites Attack Nephihah

While Moroni was getting ready to fight the Lamanites, something bad happened. The Nephites from the cities of Moroni, Lehi, and Morianton had come together. The Lamanites attacked them. Some Nephites had been forced to run away from Manti and the areas around it. They had joined the Lamanites. The Lamanite army was very big. It kept getting bigger every day. Ammoron told them to attack the people of Nephihah. They started killing many of them. Their armies were so big that the rest of the people of Nephihah had to run away. They joined Moroni’s army.

Moroni had thought that soldiers would be sent to Nephihah to help protect the city. He knew it was easier to keep a city safe than to get it back after losing it. So he thought they would be able to keep that city safe. This is why he kept all his soldiers in the places he had already gotten back.

Moroni Becomes Sad and Angry

When Moroni saw that the city of Nephihah was lost, he was very sad. He began to worry. He wondered if the wicked Nephites would lose to their enemies. All his top soldiers felt the same way. They were worried and surprised because the people were being wicked. They were worried because the Lamanites were winning. Moroni became angry with the government. They didn’t seem to care about keeping their country free.
