The Queen Calls for Ammon
After two days and two nights, they were about to take his body and lay it in a tomb. They had made the tomb to bury their dead.
The queen had heard about Ammon. So she sent for him. She wanted him to come to her. Ammon did what he was told. He went to the queen. He asked what she wanted him to do. She said to him: “My husband’s servants told me that you are a prophet of a Holy God. They said you have power to do many great things in his name. If this is true, I want you to go see my husband. He has been lying on his bed for two days and two nights. Some people say he is not dead. Others say he is dead. They say he smells bad and should be put in the tomb. But I don’t think he smells bad.”
This was what Ammon wanted. He knew that King Lamoni was under the power of God. He knew the dark cover of unbelief had been taken away from his mind. The light of God’s glory had lit up his mind. This was an amazing light of God’s goodness. This light filled his soul with joy. The cloud of darkness was gone. The light of life forever was lit up in his soul. He knew this had overcome the king’s body. He was carried away in God. What the queen wanted was the only thing he wanted. So he went in to see the king. This is what the queen had wanted him to do. He saw the king. He knew that he was not dead.
He said to the queen: “He is not dead. But he sleeps in God. Tomorrow he will rise again. So don’t bury him.” Ammon said to her: “Do you believe this?” And she said to him: “I have no proof except your word and the word of our servants. But I believe it will happen just like you said.” Ammon said to her: “God blesses you because of your great faith. I tell you, woman, there has not been such great faith among all the people of the Nephites.”
She watched over her husband’s bed from that time until the next day. This was the time Ammon had said he would rise.
The King Rises Again
He rose up just like Ammon had said. As he rose up, he stretched out his hand to the woman. He said: “God’s name is blessed. And you are blessed. As sure as you are alive, I have seen my Savior. He will come and be born of a woman. He will save all people who believe in his name.” When he had said these words, his heart was full. He sank down again with joy. The queen also sank down. The Spirit was too much for her.
Ammon saw the Spirit of the Lord pour out on the Lamanites. He had prayed for this to happen. These were his brothers. They had caused so much sadness among the Nephites and all the people of God. This was because of their sins and their traditions. Ammon fell on his knees. He began to pray and thank God for what he had done for his brothers. He was also filled with too much joy. So all three of them had fallen to the ground.
The king’s servants saw that they had fallen. They also began to cry out to God. The fear of the Lord had come on them too. They were the ones who had stood before the king. They had told him about the great power of Ammon.
Abish Gathers the People
They called on the name of the Lord with all their strength. They all fell to the ground except for one Lamanite woman. Her name was Abish. She had been converted to the Lord for many years. This happened because of an amazing vision her father had. She had been converted to the Lord but never told anyone. When she saw that all the servants of Lamoni had fallen to the ground, she looked around. The queen and the king and Ammon were lying flat on the ground. She knew this was the power of God. She thought this was a good time to tell the people what had happened. She thought that when they saw this, they would believe in the power of God. So she ran from house to house. She told the people what happened.
They began to come together to the king’s house. A big crowd came. They were shocked. They saw the king and the queen and their servants lying flat on the ground. They all looked like they were dead. They also saw Ammon. He was a Nephite.
The People Argue
The people began to talk among themselves. Some said: “This is a great evil that has come on them. It came on the king and his house because he let the Nephite stay in the land.” But others said to them: “The king brought this evil on his house. He killed his servants when their flocks were scattered at the waters of Sebus.” Then the men who had stood at the waters of Sebus spoke up. They had scattered the flocks that belonged to the king. They were angry with Ammon because of how many of their brothers he had killed at the waters of Sebus. He was defending the king’s flocks.
One of them had a brother who had been killed by Ammon’s sword. He was very angry with Ammon. He pulled out his sword. He went to kill Ammon. As he lifted his sword to hit him, he fell dead. We see that Ammon could not be killed. The Lord had said to Mosiah, his father: “I will keep him safe. It will be just like you believed.” So Mosiah trusted him to the Lord.
When the crowd saw that the man had fallen dead, they were all scared. The man had lifted the sword to kill Ammon. They did not touch him or any of those who had fallen. They began to wonder again among themselves. What could cause this great power? What did all these things mean? Many of them said that Ammon was the Great Spirit. Others said he was sent by the Great Spirit. But others told them they were wrong. They said: “He is a monster sent from the Nephites to hurt us.” Some said that Ammon was sent by the Great Spirit to punish them because of their sins. They said it was the Great Spirit that had always helped the Nephites. He had always saved them from the Lamanites. They said it was this Great Spirit who had killed so many of their brothers, the Lamanites.
The arguing became very loud among them. While they were arguing, the woman servant came. She had caused the crowd to come together. When she saw the arguing among the crowd, she was very sad. She even cried.
The Queen Rises Up
She went and took the queen by the hand. Maybe she could raise her from the ground. As soon as she touched her hand, she rose up. She stood on her feet. She cried with a loud voice. She said: “O blessed Jesus, who has saved me from an awful hell! O blessed God, have mercy on these people.” When she had said this, she put her hands together. She was filled with joy. She spoke many words that were not understood. When she had done this, she took King Lamoni by the hand. He rose up and stood on his feet.
Right away he saw the arguing among his people. He went and began to teach them. He did not let them argue anymore. He taught them the words he had heard from Ammon. Many people heard his words. They believed and were converted to the Lord. But many among them would not listen to his words. So they went away.
Hearts Are Changed
When Ammon rose up, he also taught them. All the servants of Lamoni did too. They all said the same thing to the people. Their hearts had been changed. They did not want to do evil anymore.
Many told the people that they had seen angels. They had talked with them. The angels told them things about God and his goodness.
Many people believed their words. Everyone who believed was baptized. They became good people. They started a church among them. This is how the Lord’s work started among the Lamanites. This is how the Lord began to pour out his Spirit on them. We see that his help goes out to all people who will be sorry for their sins and believe in his name.
