Alma and Amulek Go to Sidom
Alma and Amulek were told to leave that city. They left and came to the land of Sidom. There they found all the people who had left the land of Ammonihah. These people had been kicked out and stoned because they believed what Alma said. The people told them everything that had happened to their wives and children. They also told what had happened to them and how they were saved.
Zeezrom Is Sick
Zeezrom was sick in Sidom. He had a burning fever. His mind was very troubled because of the bad things he had done. He thought Alma and Amulek were dead. He thought they had been killed because of his sins. This great sin and his many other sins made his mind hurt very badly. He had no way to feel better. So he started to burn with a hot fever.
When he heard that Alma and Amulek were in the land of Sidom, he felt hopeful. He sent them a message right away. He asked them to come to him.
They went right away. They obeyed his message. They went into Zeezrom’s house. They found him lying on his bed sick. He was very weak with a burning fever. His mind also hurt very badly because of his sins. When he saw them, he reached out his hand. He begged them to heal him.
Zeezrom Is Healed
Alma took him by the hand. He said: “Do you believe in the power of Jesus to save you?” Zeezrom answered: “Yes. I believe everything you have taught.” Alma said: “If you believe that Jesus saves people, you can be healed.” Zeezrom said: “Yes. I believe what you say.” Then Alma prayed to the Lord. He said: “O Lord our God, please help this man. Heal him because of his faith in Jesus.” When Alma said these words, Zeezrom jumped up on his feet. He started to walk. Everyone was very surprised. The news of this went out through all the land of Sidom.
The Church Grows in Sidom
Alma baptized Zeezrom. From that time on, Zeezrom started to teach the people. Alma started a church in the land of Sidom. He chose priests and teachers there. They baptized everyone who wanted to be baptized. There were many people who came. They came from all around Sidom and were baptized.
But the people in the land of Ammonihah still had hard hearts. They would not change. They did not turn away from their sins. They said that all of Alma and Amulek’s power came from the devil. They were followers of Nehor. They did not believe they needed to turn away from their sins.
Alma Takes Amulek Home
Amulek had given up all his gold and silver and nice things in the land of Ammonihah. He did this for God’s word. His friends turned against him. His father and his family also turned against him. After Alma started the church in Sidom, he saw a great change. The people were not proud anymore. They started to make themselves humble before God. They started to meet together in their churches to worship God. They prayed all the time. They asked to be saved from Satan and from death and from being destroyed. Alma saw all these things. So he took Amulek and went back to the land of Zarahemla. He took Amulek to his own house. He helped him with his hard times. He made him stronger in the Lord.
And so ended the tenth year that the judges ruled over Nephi’s people.
