The Book of Mormon

2 Nephi 29

God Promises More Scripture

But when that day comes—when I do something extraordinary among you—many people will see it. I’ll be keeping the promises I made to all people. I’ll reach out a second time to bring my people, the House of Israel, back home. I’ll also keep the promises I made to you, Nephi, and to your father: that I would remember your children and their children. The words your family writes will reach your descendants. My words will spread to the ends of the earth like a rallying cry for my people, the House of Israel.

But when my words spread, many outsiders will say, “A Bible! We already have a Bible. There can’t be any more Bible.”

The Foolishness of Rejecting God’s Word

This is what the Lord God says: “Fools! They have a Bible—one that came from the Jews, my ancient covenant people. But do they thank the Jews for the Bible they received from them? Do these outsiders remember the hardships the Jews endured, the labor and pain, the dedication they showed to bring salvation to the world? Have you remembered the Jews, my ancient covenant people? No. You’ve cursed them. You’ve hated them. You haven’t tried to help them. But I’ll turn all that back on you. I, the Lord, have not forgotten my people.”

“You fool, saying, ‘A Bible! We have a Bible and don’t need any more.’ Did you get a Bible except through the Jews? Don’t you know there’s more than one nation? Don’t you know that I, the Lord your God, created everyone? I remember the people on distant islands. I rule in heaven above and on earth below. I give my word to all people—every nation on earth. Why complain because you’ll receive more of my word? Don’t you know that when two nations testify, it proves to you that I am God, that I care for one nation as much as another? That’s why I speak the same words to every nation. When the records of two nations come together, their testimonies will support each other. I do this to prove to many that I’m the same yesterday, today, and forever—that I speak my words as I choose. Just because I’ve spoken one word doesn’t mean I can’t speak another. My work isn’t finished. It won’t be until the end of human history, and not even then.”

“So don’t assume that just because you have a Bible, it contains everything I’ve ever said. And don’t assume I haven’t caused more to be written.”

All Nations Will Write God’s Words

“I command all people—east and west, north and south, and on every island—to write down the words I speak to them. From the books that are written, I will judge the world. Every person will be judged by their actions, according to what’s been recorded.”

“I will speak to the Jews, and they will write it down. I will speak to the Nephites, and they will write it down. I will speak to the other tribes of Israel I’ve led away, and they will write it down. I will speak to all nations on earth, and they will write it down.”

“The day will come when the Jews will have the Nephites’ words, and the Nephites will have the Jews’ words. The Nephites and the Jews will have the words of the lost tribes of Israel. And the lost tribes will have the words of the Nephites and the Jews.”

“My people from the House of Israel will be gathered home to their own lands. And my word will be gathered into one. I will show everyone who fights against my word and against my people—the House of Israel—that I am God, and that I made a covenant with Abraham to remember his children forever.”
