And I spake unto him, even with an oath, that he need not fear; that he should be a free man like unto us, if he would go down in the wilderness with us.

Simple English

I promised him that he didn’t need to be afraid. He would be a free man like us if he came with us to the desert.

Paraphrase

I swore an oath: 'Don’t be afraid. You’ll be free like us if you come with us into the wilderness.'
