The Lord Will Show Mercy to Israel
The Lord will have mercy on Jacob and will still choose Israel. He will set them in their own land. Strangers will join with them and will stay close to the house of Jacob. The people will take them and bring them to their place from far away. They will bring them from the ends of the earth. They will return to their promised lands. The house of Israel will have them as servants. They will take them captive who were their captors. They will rule over those who once hurt them.
On that day the Lord will give you rest from your sadness, your fear, and the hard slavery you were made to do.
A Song Against the King of Babylon
On that day you will make fun of the king of Babylon and say: The cruel ruler has stopped! The golden city has ended! The Lord has broken the staff of the wicked. He has broken the scepters of the rulers. He who hit the people in anger again and again has been punished. He who ruled the nations in anger has been hunted down. No one can stop it. The whole earth is at rest and is quiet. They break out in singing. The fir trees are happy about you. So are the cedar trees of Lebanon. They say: Since you have been laid down, no one has come up to cut us down.
Hell from below is ready to meet you when you come. It wakes up the dead for you. It wakes all the great leaders of the earth. It makes all the kings of the nations get up from their thrones. All of them will speak and say to you: Have you also become weak like us? Have you become like us? Your pride has been brought down to the grave. The sound of your music is not heard. The worm is spread under you. The worms cover you.
Lucifer Has Fallen
How you have fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! You have been cut down to the ground. You who made the nations weak! For you said in your heart: I will go up into heaven. I will lift my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mount where the people gather in the sides of the north. I will go up above the heights of the clouds. I will be like the Most High. Yet you will be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Those who see you will look closely at you and think about you. They will say: Is this the man who made the earth shake? Is this the man who made kingdoms tremble? Is this the man who made the world like a desert and destroyed the cities? Is this the man who never let his prisoners go home? All the kings of the nations lie in glory. Each of them lies in his own tomb. But you are thrown out of your grave like a branch that is hated. You are like the bodies of those who were killed with a sword. They go down to the stones of the pit like a dead body walked on. You will not be buried with them. This is because you destroyed your land and killed your people. The children of evil people will never be honored. Get ready to kill his children for the sins of their fathers. They must not rise up or take the land. They must not fill the world with cities.
The Lord of armies says: I will rise up against them. I will cut off from Babylon the name and the people left. I will cut off the son and the nephew. The Lord of armies says: I will also make it a place for birds and pools of water. I will sweep it with the broom of destruction.
The Lord’s Plan Will Stand
The Lord of armies has promised: It will happen just as I have thought. It will stand just as I have planned. I will bring the Assyrian into my land. I will walk on him on my mountains. Then his load will leave them. His burden will leave their shoulders. This is the plan that is planned for the whole earth. This is the hand that is stretched out over all nations. The Lord of armies has planned it. Who can stop it? His hand is stretched out. Who can turn it back?
This burden came in the year that King Ahaz died.
Warning to Palestina
Do not be happy, all of Palestina, because the rod of him who hit you is broken. Out of the snake’s root will come a worse snake. His fruit will be a flying snake of fire. The first-born of the poor will eat. The needy will lie down in safety. I will kill your root with hunger. He will kill those of you who are left. Cry out, O gate! Cry, O city! All of Palestina, you will melt away. There will come from the north a smoke. No one will be alone in his set times.
What will the messengers of the nations answer? That the Lord has built Zion. The poor of his people will trust in it.
