And it came to pass that the Lord did soften the hearts of the Lamanites. And Alma and his brethren went forth and delivered themselves up into their hands; and the Lamanites took possession of the land of Helam.

The Lord did soften the hearts of the Lamanites. Alma and his people gave themselves up to them. The Lamanites took control of the land of Helam.

And the Lord did soften the Lamanites’ hearts. Alma and his people went out and surrendered. The Lamanites took control of Helam.
