The Book of Mormon

Mormon 9:27

1830 Edition

O then despise not, and wonder not, but hearken unto the words of the Lord, and ask the Father in the name of Jesus for what things soever ye shall stand in need. Doubt not, but be believing, and begin as in times of old, and come unto the Lord with all your heart, and work out your own salvation with fear and trembling before him.

Influences

Philippians 2:12 (KJV)
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Simple English

Don’t hate these things, and don’t be too amazed. Listen to the words of the Lord. Ask the Father in the name of Jesus for the things you need. Don’t doubt. Believe. Begin as people did in the old days. Come to the Lord with all your heart. Work out your own saving with fear and respect before him.

Paraphrase

So don’t despise these things, and don’t just stand there amazed. Listen closely to the Lord’s words. Ask the Father in Jesus’ name for whatever you need. Don’t doubt. Believe. Come to the Lord with your whole heart like people did long ago, and work out your salvation with reverent fear before him.
