Jacob 4:2

but whatsoever things we write upon any thing save it be upon plates, must perish and vanish away; but we can write a few words upon plates, which will give our children, and also our beloved brethen, a small degree of knowledge concerning us, or concerning their fathers.

Things written on paper will fade away. But we can write a few words on plates. These words will teach our children and brothers about us and their fathers.

Anything written on other materials will decay and disappear. But these few words on metal plates will give our children—and the family we love—some knowledge of us and their ancestors.
