And thus when Moroni had gathered together whatsoever men he could in all his march, he came to the land of Gideon; and uniting his forces with that of Pahoran, they became exceeding strong, even stronger than the men of Pachus, which was the king of those dissenters which had driven out the freemen out of the land of Zarahemla, and had taken possession of the land.

Moroni got as many men as he could on his march. He came to the land of Gideon. He joined his forces with Pahoran’s forces. They became very strong. They were stronger than the men of Pachus. Pachus was the king of those who had forced the free people out of Zarahemla and had taken over the land.

Paraphrase

By the time Moroni reached Gideon and joined forces with Pahoran, they had grown extremely strong—even stronger than the forces of Pachus, the king of the rebels who had driven the free people out of Zarahemla and taken over the city.
