Now it came to pass that when I, Helaman, had heard these words of Gid, I was filled with exceeding joy, because of the goodness of God in preserving us, that we might not all perish; yea, and I trust that the souls of them which has been slain, have entered into the rest of their God.

Simple English

When I, Helaman, heard what Gid said, I was filled with great joy. God was so good to keep us safe so we did not all die. I believe the souls of those who were killed are now resting with God.

Paraphrase

When I heard Gid’s report, I was filled with incredible joy because of God’s goodness in keeping us from total destruction. And I trust that the souls of those who died have entered into God’s rest.
