Alma 53:9

and thus because of iniquity amongst themselves, yea, because of dissensions and intrigue among themselves, they were placed in the most dangerous circumstances.

Because of the wickedness among the Nephites, they were in great danger. The fights and secret plans among them caused this.

So because of wickedness among themselves—because of betrayal and plotting—they found themselves in the most dangerous situation imaginable.
