The Book of Mormon

Alma 36:2

1830 Edition

I would that ye should do as I have done, in remembering the captivity of our fathers; for they were in bondage, and none could deliver them, except it was the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he surely did deliver them in their afflictions.

Changes

I would that ye should do as I have done, in remembering the captivity of our fathers; for they were in bondage, and none could deliver them, except it was the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he surely did deliver them in their afflictions.

Simple English

I want you to do what I have done. Remember when our fathers were captured. They were slaves, and no one could save them except the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And he did save them from their troubles.

Paraphrase

I want you to do what I’ve done—remember the captivity of our ancestors. They were enslaved, and no one could free them except the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And he did rescue them from their troubles.
