The Book of Mormon

Alma 34:28

1830 Edition

And now behold, my beloved brethren, I say unto you, Do not suppose that this is all; for after ye have done all these things, if ye turn away the needy, and the naked, and visit not the sick and afflicted, and impart of your substance, if ye have, to those which stand in need; I say unto you, if ye do not any of these things, behold, your prayer is vain, and availeth you nothing, and ye are as hypocrites which do deny the faith;

Changes

And now behold, my beloved brethren, I say unto you, Ddo not suppose that this is all; for after ye have done all these things, if ye turn away the needy, and the naked, and visit not the sick and afflicted, and impart of your substance, if ye have, to those whicho stand in need; I say unto you, if ye do not any of these things, behold, your prayer is vain, and availeth you nothing, and ye are as hypocrites whicho do deny the faith;.

Simple English

My dear brothers, do not think that this is all. After you have done all these things, you must help the poor and those without clothes. You must visit the sick and hurting. You must share what you have with those who need it. If you do not do these things, your prayer does nothing. You are like people who say one thing but do another. You turn away from faith.

Paraphrase

But listen—don’t think that’s all there is to it. If you do all these things but turn away the needy and the naked, if you don’t visit the sick and suffering, if you don’t share what you have with those in need—then your prayers are empty. They do you no good. You’re like hypocrites who deny the faith.
