The Book of Mormon

Alma 31:16

1830 Edition

Holy God, we believe that thou hast separated us from our brethren; and we do not believe in the tradition of our brethren, which was handed down to them by the childishness of their fathers; but we believe that thou hast elected us to be thy holy children; and also thou hast made it known unto us that there shall be no Christ;

Changes

Holy God, we believe that thou hast separated us from our brethren; and we do not believe in the tradition of our brethren, which was handed down to them by the childishness of their fathers; but we believe that thou hast elected us to be thy holy children; and also thou hast made it known unto us that there shall be no Christ;.

Simple English

Holy God, we believe that you have set us apart from our brothers. We do not believe in the tradition of our brothers. That tradition was passed down to them by their childish fathers. But we believe that you have chosen us to be your holy children. You have told us that there will be no Christ.

Paraphrase

Holy God, we believe you’ve set us apart from other people. We don’t believe the foolish traditions our relatives cling to—traditions passed down from their ignorant ancestors. We believe you’ve chosen us to be your holy children. And you’ve revealed to us that there is no Christ.
