Alma 27:4

Now when Ammon and his brethren saw this work of destruction among those who they so dearly beloved, and among those who had so dearly beloved them; for they were treated as though they were angels sent from God to save them from everlasting destruction; therefore, when Ammon and his brethren saw this great work of destruction, they were moved with compassion, and they said unto the king,

Ammon and his brothers saw their enemies killing these people they loved so much. These people had treated them like angels sent from God to save them. So when Ammon and his brothers saw this killing, they felt sad for them. They said to the king,

When Ammon and his brothers saw this slaughter—these people they loved so deeply, who had loved them like angels sent from God to save them—their hearts broke. They went to the king and said,
