But Ammon stood forth and saith unto him, Behold, thou shalt not slay thy son; nevertheless, it were better that he should fall than thee: for behold, he hath repented of his sins; but if thou shouldst fall at this time, in thine anger, thy soul could not be saved.

But Ammon stepped forward and said to him, “You cannot kill your son. It would be better for him to die than you. He has turned away from his sins. But if you die right now in your anger, your soul cannot be saved.”

But Ammon stepped forward. “You won’t kill your son. Better that he should fall than you—he’s repented of his sins. But if you fall now in your anger, your soul can’t be saved.”
