therefore, if it were possible that Amlici should gain the voice of the people, he being a wicked man, would deprive them of their rights and privileges of the Church, &c: for it was his intent to destroy the Church of God.

Simple English

If Amlici won the vote, he would take away the Church’s rights. He was a bad man who wanted to destroy God’s Church.

Paraphrase

If Amlici somehow gained the people’s vote, he would strip away their rights and freedoms—especially the Church’s. His real goal was to destroy the Church of God.
