Alma 1:20

yea, they did persecute them, and afflict them with all manner of words, and this because of their humility; because they were not proud in their own eyes, and because they did impart the word of God, one with another, without money and without price.

They treated them badly and said mean things to them. This was because church members were humble. They were not proud. They shared God’s word with each other without asking for money.

They harassed and mocked them endlessly, targeting their humility. The believers weren’t arrogant. They shared God’s word freely with each other, never charging a cent.
