3 Nephi 2:9

and Nephi, which was the father of Nephi, which had the charge of the records, did not return to the land of Zarahemla, and could no where be found in all the land.

Nephi was the father of Nephi who took care of the records. He did not return to the land of Zarahemla. He could not be found anywhere in all the land.

Nephi—the father of Nephi who kept the records—never returned to Zarahemla. He couldn’t be found anywhere in the land.
