2 Nephi 31:17

wherefore, do the things which I have told you that I have seen, that your Lord and your Redeemer sould do: for, for this cause have they been shown unto me, that ye might know the gate by which ye should enter. For the gate by which ye should enter, is repentance, and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire, and by the Holy Ghost.

So do the things I have told you that I saw your Lord and Savior do. These things were shown to me so you could know the gate you need to go through. The gate is turning back from your sins and being baptized with water. Then your sins are forgiven by fire and by the Holy Spirit.

Do what I’ve told you I saw your Lord and Redeemer do. I was shown these things so you’d know the gate you must enter. That gate is repentance and baptism by water. Then comes the washing away of your sins by fire and by the Holy Spirit.
