1 Nephi 19:7

~588–570 BC

1830 Edition

For the things which some men esteem to be of great worth, both to the body and soul, others set at nought, and trample under their feet. Yea, even the very God of Israel, do men trample under their feet; I say, trample under their feet; but I would speak in other words: They do set him at nought, and hearken not to the voice of his counsels;

Influences

Changes

For the things which some men esteem to be of great worth, both to the body and soul, others set at noaught, and trample under their feet. Yea, even the very God of Israel, do men trample under their feet; I say, trample under their feet; but I would speak in other words: T—they do set him at noaught, and hearken not to the voice of his counsels;.

Simple English

Some people think certain things are very valuable for their bodies and souls. But other people think these same things are worthless and step on them. People even step on the very God of Israel. I mean they think he is worthless and don’t listen to his advice.

Paraphrase

What some people treasure for body and soul, others treat like garbage. People even trample the God of Israel underfoot—yes, trample him. To put it another way: they dismiss him completely and ignore his guidance.
