1830 Edition

And when the Jews heard these things, they were angry with him; yea, even as with the prophets of old, whom they had cast out and stoned and slain; and they also sought his life, that they might take it away. But behold, I, Nephi, will shew unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord is over all them whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance.

And when the Jews heard these things, they were angry with him; yea, even as with the prophets of old, whom they had cast out, and stoned, and slain; and they also sought his life, that they might take it away. Simple English

When the Jews heard these things, they were angry with him. They treated him like the old prophets, whom they had thrown out and stoned and killed. They also tried to kill him. But I will show you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those he has chosen because of their faith, to make them strong to be saved.

Paraphrase

When the Jews heard this, they were furious. Just like they'd thrown out, stoned, and killed the old prophets, they wanted to kill him too. But I'll show you how the Lord's tender mercy strengthens those he's chosen—because they trust him. He gives them power to be delivered.
