And the king saith unto him, I being grieved for the afflictions of my people, I caused that forty and three of my people should take a journey into the wilderness, that thereby they might find the land of Zarahemla; that we might appeal unto our brethren to deliver us out of bondage;

Simple English

The king said to him: “I was sad about my people’s troubles. So I sent 43 of my people on a trip into the wilderness. I wanted them to find Zarahemla so we could ask our relatives to free us from slavery.”

Paraphrase

The king said, “My heart ached for my suffering people. So I sent forty-three men on a journey through the wilderness to find Zarahemla. We hoped our relatives there could help free us from bondage.”
