Now I say unto you, if this be the desires of your hearts, what have you against being baptized in the name of the Lord, as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him that ye will serve him and keep his commandments, that he may pour out his spirit more abundantly upon you.—

Simple English

'If this is what your hearts want, why not be baptized in the Lord’s name? This will be a witness to him. You will show you have made a promise with him. You will serve him and keep his commandments. Then he will give you more of his Spirit.'

then I ask you: if that’s truly what you want, what’s stopping you from being baptized in the Lord’s name? It will be your witness before him that you’ve made a promise—that you’ll serve him and follow his ways, so he can pour out his Spirit on you even more freely.'
