Mosiah 11:7

Yea, and they also became idolatrous, because they were deceived by the vain and flattering words of the king and priests; for they did speak flattering things unto them.

The people also started worshiping false gods. The king and priests lied to them with nice-sounding words that fooled them.

Before long, the people became idol worshipers too. The king and his priests deceived them with empty flattery and lies.
