The Book of Mormon

Mormon 9:4

1830 Edition

Behold I say unto you, that ye would be more miserable to dwell with a holy and just God, under a consciousness of your filthiness before him, than ye would to dwell with the damned souls in hell?

Changes

Behold, I say unto you, that ye would be more miserable to dwell with a holy and just God, under a consciousness of your filthiness before him, than ye would to dwell with the damned souls in hell?.

Simple English

I say to you that living with a holy and fair God would make you more sad than living with the people in hell. This is because you would feel how bad you are when you stand before him.

Paraphrase

Here’s the truth: you’d be more miserable living with a holy and just God—conscious of your filthiness before him—than you would be with the damned souls in hell.
