Mormon 8:5
1830 Edition
Behold, my father hath made this record, and he hath written the intent thereof. And behold, I would write it also, if I had room upon the plates; but I have not. Friends I have none, for I am alone: my father hath been slain in battle, and all my kinsfolks, and I have not friends nor whither to go; and how long that the Lord will suffer that I may live, I know not.

Simple English
My father made this record. He wrote down its purpose. I would write it too if I had room on the plates. But I don’t. I have no friends because I am alone. My father was killed in battle. All my family members are dead. I have no friends and nowhere to go. I don’t know how long the Lord will let me live.
Paraphrase
My father made this record and explained its purpose. I’d add more if I had room on these plates, but I don’t. I have no friends—I’m completely alone. My father was killed in battle, along with all my relatives. I have no one and nowhere to go. I don’t know how long the Lord will let me live.
