Mormon 4:11

~AD 375–380

1830 Edition

And it is impossible for the tongue to describe, or for man to write a perfect description of the horrible scene of the blood and carnage which was among the people, both of the Nephites and of the Lamanites; and every heart was hardened, so that they delighted in the shedding of blood continually.

Influences

Mark 10:27 (KJV)
And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
Hebrews 9:22 (KJV)
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Simple English

No one can describe or write a full picture of the terrible killing that happened among the people. Both the Nephites and the Lamanites had hard hearts. They loved to kill.

Paraphrase

What happened next is too horrible to fully describe. The bloodshed and carnage among both peoples—Nephites and Lamanites—was beyond words. Every heart had hardened. They took pleasure in killing, constantly.
