Helaman 16:20

But behold, we know that this is a wicked tradition, which has been handed down unto us by our fathers, to cause us that we should believe in some great and marvellous thing which should come to pass, but not among us, but in a land which is far distant, a land which we know not; therefore they can keep us in ignorance, for we cannot witness with our own eyes that they are true.

“We know this is a bad tradition. Our fathers passed it down to us. They want us to believe in something great and amazing. But it won’t happen here. It will happen far away in a land we don’t know. This way they can keep us ignorant. We can’t see with our own eyes if it’s true.”

“Look, we know this is just a corrupt tradition our ancestors passed down to make us believe in some great miraculous event that’s supposed to happen—but not here, somewhere far away in a land we’ve never seen. This way they can keep us ignorant, because we can’t see with our own eyes whether it’s true.”
