Helaman 12:2
1830 Edition
yea, and we may see at the very time when he doth prosper his people; yea, in the increase of their fields, their flocks, and their herds, and in gold, and in silver, and in all manner of precious things of every kind and art; sparing their lives, and delivering them out of the hands of their enemies; softening the hearts of their enemies, that they should not declare wars against them; yea, and in fine, doing all things for the welfare and happiness of his people; yea, then is the time that they do harden their hearts, and do forget the Lord their God, and do trample under their feet the Holy One; yea, and this because of their ease, and their exceeding great prosperity.

Simple English
We can see what happens when he helps his people do well. He gives them more crops and animals. He gives them gold, silver, and all kinds of nice things. He keeps them alive. He saves them from their enemies. He makes their enemies kind so they won’t start wars. He does everything to make his people happy and safe. But that’s when they make their hearts hard. They forget the Lord their God. They step on the Holy One. They do this because life is easy. They have so much.
Paraphrase
When he blesses his people—when their fields thrive, their flocks multiply, their wealth grows in gold and silver and precious things of every kind; when he saves their lives and delivers them from enemies; when he softens the hearts of those who would fight them—when he does everything for their welfare and happiness, that’s exactly when they harden their hearts. They forget the Lord their God. They trample the Holy One. Why? Because life is easy and they’re incredibly prosperous.
