And now behold, Pacumeni was appointed, according to the voice of the people, to be a Chief Judge and a govereor over the people, to reign in the stead of his brother Pahoran; and it was according to his right. And all this was done, in the fortieth year of the reign of the Judges; and it had an end.

Changes

Simple English

The people chose Pacumeni to be the chief judge and leader. He took his brother Pahoran’s place. This was his right. All this happened in the fortieth year of the judges’ rule. Then it ended.

Paraphrase

So Pacumeni was appointed chief judge and governor in his brother’s place. It was his rightful turn. All this happened in that same fortieth year.
