Ether 14:2

Wherefore every man did cleave unto that which was his own, with his hands, and would not borrow, neither would he lend; and every man kept the hilt of his sword thereof, in his right hand, in the defence of his property and his own life, and they of his wives and children.

So every man held on to what was his. He wouldn’t borrow or lend. Every man kept his sword in his right hand to protect his property and his own life. He also protected his wives and children.

So everyone clung to what they owned. No one borrowed or lent anything. Every man gripped his sword in his right hand, ready to defend his property, his life, and his family.
