And they hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord, because of their wicked combinations; wherefore there began to be wars and contentions in all the land, and also many famines and pestilences, insomuch that there was a great destruction, such an one as never had been known upon the face of the earth: and all this came to pass in the days of Shiblom.

Simple English

The people did not listen to the Lord because of their secret evil groups. Wars and fighting started everywhere. Many people starved. Many got sick and died. Terrible destruction came like nothing ever seen before. All this happened when Shiblom was king.

Paraphrase

But they wouldn’t listen to the Lord because of their secret criminal alliances. Wars broke out everywhere, followed by famines and plagues. The destruction was unlike anything the world had ever seen. All of this happened during Shiblom’s reign.
