Enos 1:20
1830 Edition
And I bare rerecord that the people of Nephi did seek diligently to restore the Lamanites unto the true faith in God. But our labors were vain; their hatred was fixed, and they were led by their evil nature, that they became wild, and ferocious, and a blood-thirsty people; full of idolatry, and filthiness; feading upon beasts of prey, dwelling in tents, and wandering about in the wilderness, with a short skin girded about their loins, and their heads shaven; and their skill was in the bow, and the cimeter, and the axe.—And many of them did eat nothing save it was raw meat; and they were continually seeking to destroy us.

Simple English
I tell you that the Nephite people tried hard to help the Lamanites believe the true faith in God. But our work was useless. Their hatred was set, and their evil nature led them to become wild, fierce, and violent people. They were full of idol worship and dirty living. They ate wild animals for food, lived in tents, and wandered in the wilderness with only a short animal skin around their waist and shaved heads. They were skilled with bows, swords, and axes. Many of them ate only raw meat. They were always trying to kill us.
Paraphrase
I can testify that the Nephites worked hard to bring the Lamanites back to faith in God. But it was useless. Their hatred was set. They were driven by their worst nature—they’d become wild, violent, bloodthirsty. They worshiped idols and lived in filth, hunting animals for food, living in tents and wandering the wilderness. They wore animal skins around their waists and shaved their heads. They were skilled with the bow, the sword, and the axe. Many ate nothing but raw meat. They were always trying to destroy us.
