Alma 58:6

And the Lamanitas were sallying forth against us, from time to time, resolving by stratagem, to destroy us; nevertheless, we could not come to battle with them, because of their retreats and their strong holds.

The Lamanites came out against us from time to time. They tried to trick us and destroy us. But we could not fight them because they went back to their forts.

The Lamanites kept launching attacks against us, trying to destroy us through clever tactics. But we couldn’t force a decisive battle—they’d just retreat to their fortified positions.
