and as the remainder of our army were about to give way before the Lamanites, behold, those two thousand and sixty were firm and undaunted;

The rest of our army was about to give up to the Lamanites. But those two thousand and sixty young men stayed firm and brave.

When the rest of our army started to give way before the Lamanite advance, those two thousand sixty held their ground without fear.
