Alma 55:23

And thus they saw that the Nephites had power over them; and in these circumstances they found that it was not expedient that they should fight with the Nephites; therefore their Chief Captains demanded their weapons of war, and they brought them forth, and cast them at the feet of the Nephites, pleading for mercy.

They saw that the Nephites had power over them. In this situation, they knew it was not a good idea to fight the Nephites. So their chief captains gave up their weapons of war. They brought them out and threw them at the feet of the Nephites. They begged for mercy.

They realized the Nephites had complete power over them. In that position, fighting made no sense. Their chief captains ordered their men to surrender their weapons, and the soldiers brought them forward and laid them at the Nephites’ feet, begging for mercy.
