Alma 53:12

and for this cause, they were brought down into the land of Zarahemla; and they ever had been protected by the Nephites.

That’s why they came down to the land of Zarahemla. The Nephites always protected them.

That’s why they’d been brought to Zarahemla—so the Nephites could protect them.
