Alma 49:6

Now the leaders of the Lamanites had supposed, because of the greatness of their numbers; yea, they supposed that they should be privileged to come upon them as they had hitherto done; yea, and they had also prepared themselves with shields, and with breast-plates; and they had also prepared themselves with garments of skins; yea, very thick garments, to cover their nakedness.

The Lamanite leaders thought that because they had so many soldiers, they could attack like they had before. They had prepared themselves with shields and armor on their chests. They also had very thick clothes made of animal skins to cover their bodies.

Paraphrase

The Lamanite leaders had assumed that with their huge army, they could just waltz in like before. They’d even prepared for battle—shields, armor, thick leather clothing to protect themselves.
