There were about fifty which were wounded, which had been exposed to the arrows of the Lamanites through the pass; but they were shielded by their shields, and their breast-plates, and their head-plates, insomuch that their wounds were upon their legs; many of which were very severe.

There were about fifty Nephites who were hurt. They had been hit by the Lamanites’ arrows through the entrance. But they were protected by their shields and their chest armor and their helmets. So their wounds were on their legs. Many of those wounds were very bad.

About fifty Nephites were wounded—hit by arrows that came through the entrance. But their shields, breastplates, and helmets protected their vital areas. Most of the wounds were on their legs, and some were serious.
