And now it came to pass that the queen, when she had heard that the king was slain: for Amalickiah had sent an embassy to the queen, informing her that the king had been slain by his servants; that he had pursued them with his army, but it was in vain, and they had made their escape:

The queen heard that the king was killed. Amalickiah had sent a message to the queen. He told her that the king had been killed by his servants. He said he chased them with his army but couldn’t catch them. He said they got away.

When the queen heard the king had been killed—Amalickiah had sent messengers telling her the king’s own servants murdered him, and that he’d chased them but they’d escaped—
