Alma 37:45

And now I say, Is there not a type in this thing? For just as suredly as this director did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if we follow its course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow, into a far better land of promise.

I say: Isn’t there a lesson in this thing? Just as this director brought our fathers, by following its path, to the promised land, so will the words of Christ, if we follow its path, carry us beyond this valley of sadness into a far better land of promise.

Don’t you see the parallel? Just as surely as this compass brought our ancestors to the promised land when they followed its direction, the words of Christ will carry us beyond this valley of sorrow to a far better land of promise—if we follow their direction.
