The Book of Mormon

Alma 36:15

1830 Edition

O, thought I, that I could be banished and become extinct both soul and body, that I might not be brought to stand in the presence of my God, to be judged of my deeds.

Changes

Oh, thought I, that I could be banished and become extinct both soul and body, that I might not be brought to stand in the presence of my God, to be judged of my deeds.

Simple English

I thought: I wish I could disappear completely. I wish my soul and body could be gone. Then I would not have to stand before God and be judged for what I did.

Paraphrase

I thought to myself, “I wish I could be banished and wiped out completely—body and soul—so I wouldn’t have to stand before God and be judged for what I’ve done.”
